MEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
CHAPMAN (PINEHURST) TOURNAMENT RULES

line

Pinehurst is a stroke play tournament, pick your partner.   Phase one: Each player plays from the teeing ground. Then each player plays his partner's ball for the second shot.   Phase two: After the second shots, partners select the ball with which they wish to score, and play that ball, alternately to complete the hole. The partners choose which of them starts phase two.

Each team will get handicap strokes as follows: The A player gets 60% and the B player gets 40% of their Course Handicap. Number of flights will be based on the number of players in the field. The teams can play either the blue or white tees. Teams in a mixed-tee-flight will get tee adjustment. Sign up and record your tee choice on the clip board prior to close of business on the Wednesday before the tournament.

For the first phase of playing every hole (the first two shots) each player hits his drive. If both balls are in play the partners hit each others ball before starting the alternate shot phase, (Phase two). (See situations below)

The second phase (Alternate shots) is played under Rule 29. Following phase one the best ball is determined, the ball not chosen can be removed and returned to the bag of its owner. The partners then determine who starts the alternate shot phase. Continue to hit alternately until the ball is holed.

Situation Solution
One tee shot out of bounds or lost or unplayable in a water hazard. Partner hitting the ball shot then hits his partner's ball (the only ball in play) before starting phase two.
Both tee shots out of bounds or lost. Start phase two from the tee box, hitting three.
Both tee shots in a water hazard, or one OB or lost and one in a water hazard and unplayable. Start phase two from the most favorable drop area under the water hazard rule hitting three (Rule 26).
Second shot , if one ball is out of bounds lost or unplayable in a water hazard. Or a wrong ball hit. Start phase two with the remaining ball.
Second shot , both balls out of bounds or lost. Or two wrong balls hit. Start phase two hitting four from the spot where the ball furthermost from the teeing ground was hit.
Second shot , both balls unplayable in a water hazard. Start phase two, hitting four, by dropping a ball under the water hazard rule. Use either ball to determine the most favorable drop area (Rule 26).
